Pinterest LIVE! recap & May project reveal

We had an amazing time at our April Pinterest LIVE! at Suite Pieces event!

We branched out from our usual home decor projects and tried our hand at fashion with Metallic Monogram Totes with Fabric Rosette appliques.

First we gave everyone their own custom tote with a freezer paper stencil made just for them… We love the classic typewriter font look, and used AmerType. And if you haven’t worked with freezer paper as a stencil before, definitely give it a try! It’s got a plastic backing, so when ironed on to your fabric surface, it creates a tight seal yet removes easily without stretching your fabric. We used a Cricut Explore (electronic cutting machine) to cut out all the stencils, so they’d be perfect ; )

Using Annie’s amazing Chalk Paint® palette, everyone got to work painting their letters and contrasting stripes.

We used Artisan Enhancements Leaf & Foil size and metallic foil sheets to create the flashy metallic bottoms for our bags in gold, copper, and pewter (which I fondly refer to as “champagne”… so pretty!).

As a finishing touch, Amanda showed everyone how to create adorable Fabric Rosettes using a piece of fabric that we’d sewn and turned. These little beauties are all over Pinterest lately – on wreaths, pillows, you name it.

We’re pretty sure that no one sustained any serious hot glue burns in the making of these rosettes!

As usual, we were overwhelmed with the creativity of our lovely customers… the color combinations, the sassy little extras you added (like the bonus stripe across the top & bottom… Bonnie & Kerry we’re talking to you!)… It’s seeing the variety of finished products, customized by YOU, that we love the most.

We have oodles of Mason Jar projects pinned to our Pinterest LIVE! board, but the one that inspired us the most was pinned by Kerry Degnan.

Our version will have three 16oz. wide-mouth mason jars, mounted to a 15″ carved board using metal hose clamps (don’t worry, we’ve pre-drilled and sized them for you!). We’ll paint the boards with Chalk Paint® and finish them using a wash technique (which is one of 4 techniques we teach in our Intro to Chalk Paint class). As a finishing touch, we’ll add chalkboard tags tied with jute twine and a burlap ribbon hanger to the back.

As always, you pick the colors. All supplies, instruction, and an evening of wine, chocolate & new friends for just $49!

Here’s a close-up of our version using Provence with a Graphite wash…

Endless color combinations, endless uses! Hang it in the bathroom to corral your beauty products; in the craft room to house your ribbons; in the kitchen to store spices or other pantry staples;  in the playroom to organize all those crayons and markers; or even as a mini herb garden or vase for flowers this summer!
